The Real Guns Quad Groove Ventilator

The Real Guns’ Lab has spent a good deal of time analyzing new bullets as they come to the market place. While we can appreciate the thought and energy invested by manufacturers in these new designs, we believe traditional companies are too deeply entrenched in “what is”, to consider “what should be”, or even “What it is” when it comes to meeting the needs of today’s handloader. Real Guns is stepping up to the challenge with the release of its Quad Groove Ventilator.  Offered in .458″ 200 grain bullet configuration only, the Ventilator is for use with heavy .45-70 loads in modern firearms.

The Ventilator’s Ridge-O-Safety makes this bullet perfectly safe for use in tubular magazines. The combination of the Ridge-O-Safety and the XTreme Hollow Point opening provides support and alignment of rounds, while staying absolutely clear of primer surfaces. All Ventilator bullets are supplied with a cannelure to establish proper COL and ensure whatever gets pushed into that magazine, will actually feed and eject.

The XTreme Hollow Point and 4 Power Grooves work in tandem to provide the highest velocity and greatest impact. When a Ventilator loaded cartridge is discharged, expanding gasses flow into the base and travel through  the bullet, forcing it outward against the rifling for a perfect bore seal. Then, once free of the bore, the bullet’s cross section is so slight it is virtually drag free. On impact, there is no bullet more devastating than the Ventilator; the  Power Grooves collapse like a cheap accordion as they work their 4 step magic.  While we can’t state for certain the animal’s reaction to being shot, we believe it goes something like this –

1. The first groove collapses, “Damn! I’ve been shot!”.
2. The second groove collapses, “Gees! That really smarts. I’ve definitely been shot!”
3. The third groove collapses, “I’m getting sleepy. THIS is no ordinary bullet!”
4. The fourth groove collapses, “Argahhhhh…blop, gurgle ptthhhh!”

More than conforming to the physical properties of penetration and expansion, the Ventilator is the first bullet to get into the quarry’s psyche, combining mind games with significant amounts of physical discomfort.

While testing the product, we were fortunate to find a whole pack of wild boar rooting about in a farmer’s barnyard. This brut, after being shot 5 times with a 480 Ruger double action revolver, was taken down with one .45-70 Ventilator round. The look of confusion on this pig’s face is obvious, as was the look on the farmer’s face when we told him no thanks were necessary, and tossed the pig in the back of our Suburban before driving away.

Ease of Use and Storage

The XTreme Hollow Point configuration serves another purpose. Ventilators are sold 50 to the pack, but instead of dumping them into a plastic box where they can be damaged when bounced around in shipment, they are racked on an aluminum rod. Not only does this packaging approach serve to cut shipping cost and damage, the rod can be connected to any Rock Chucker Press, converting it  to fully automated feed and unbelievable  rates of production. How does 2,000 rounds per hour sound? Lock-N-Load versions are in the works.

We’ll, there you have it.  High velocity, low drag, killer impact, ease and speed of reloading. What more could you ask for in a bullet?  Ventilators are available wherever fine….actually, they are only available here, but we do plan on global distribution in the near future. In the mean time, $100 buys a stick of 50.
