Information Update to previous articles

Belt Mountain Enterprises  – I heard from the folks over at Belt Mountain regarding installation of their replacement base pins for six guns. I had written an article on installing an oversized base pin in a Ruger Bisley, and commented on the written installation procedure that suggested forcing a set screw against the barrel to make a locking indentation. The alternative suggestion from Belt Mountain was to spot drill a small dimple in the barrel, which I’m sure is a cleaner method, if your set up to do this type of work.

All of this is hair splitting – the parts are well made and offer a substantial improvement over the standard Ruger part. The Belt Mountain part fits more tightly and won’t pop out under recoil.

Belt Mountain has added a new piece to their selection; the #5 Style Base Pin, patterned after the pin that Elmer Keith designed for his #5SA .44 Special in 1927. Offering the same oversize and lock in place features, a stainless version will be available in November.

Engraving Arts The Engraving Arts site is obviously operated by a person who has a tremendous enthusiasm for the engraving art form, and solid understanding of firearm function and aesthetics. I think I keep going back to the site because of the continually revised technical and historical information, and a work in progress .600 Nitro that is absolutely incredible.

Tiz Pozzobon has recently upgraded the site with much more background and information on engraving, making it quite educational. Picture galleries have been expanded, and an image zoom feature has been added, showing excellent examples of his work and various styles of engraving. There is even a step by step forms driven system for securing quotes, which helps potential clients to make an informed decision on an engraving project.

It’s always nice to see any artist or craftsman who openly shares methods and techniques. Maybe it’s a statement of confidence in personal skills when work isn’t hidden behind a fabricated cloak of secrecy. In any case, our continued thanks to Tiz for presenting firearms in such a positive setting.

Thanks
Joe
