Maine State of Mind

I’m going to take a break for a few weeks and head back to Maine. My wife and I had a visit from a grandson who lives in Texas, we were able to see another receive his First Communion and my granddaughter took her first steps. We have a little time before they begin college. We have a small window of opportunity in the middle of spinning plates to have a driveway put in at the house, some finished steps and walkways, and maybe even a lawn if I can get myself excited about running a tiller and putting down sod.

In Denver, two police officers were shot down by an illegal alien, but the Denver police union still sees no reason to vacate the city council’s policy of safe haven for illegal aliens. In Illinois a man, just recently released from prison after serving time for aggravated assault in Texas, murdered his eight year old daughter and her friend. He cited curfew violation as the motivating factor. The Illinois DA doesn’t yet know if the crime warrants the death penalty. A local California DA murdered his family, then killed himself, six people altogether. A father is arrested for protesting his six year old son being exposed to homosexual life styles in a one sided public school presentation. A member of Congress, while addressing a high school class refers to the President as a “Loser”. At a California middle school children persist on wearing clothing that would make a street walking hooker blush, the principal intercedes with a dress code, and the parents go on the attack defending their children’s right to free expression.

Yup, I am going to Maine and dig up some ground, hammer some nails, sit on the porch when I get tired, invite in who I want, keep out who I don’t want, and enjoy the last days of personal freedom this country has to offer. Our neighbor – New Hampshire, has an illegal Ecuadorian immigrant problem. Yeah, let me say that again. New Hampshire has an illegal Ecuadorian immigrant problem. The town police made an arrest, INS told them to set them free and threatened the police as their reward for getting involved. I will check for stray Peruvians or Frenchmen hiding under my porch where the Catholic Church might have granted them asylum. Yes, I am a Catholic and I still can’t understand how an organization so bent on self destruction can have so much bad advice to offer to its faithful followers. It would be nice, for a change, if instead of giving away my tax dollars, children’s education fund, savings account and food off of my table they might sell off part of the Vatican art collection or library, or fancy head gear to finance these worthy causes. Whatever happened to Saint Francis? I didn’t know Jesus, and I don’t think there is a movie I can watch, or a book I can read of recent production that would provide real insight into the man, much less his mission. But I find it hard to believe he would condone a lifestyle for church officials that is superior to those who  follow him and his teachings.

Minutemen on the borders or, as the liberal press calls them, bad, bad vigilantes – apparently the kind of vigilantes that don’t violate human rights, shoot or harm anyone, but notify the federal government of illegal activity. I looked it up the word “vigilante” and it seems to mean – Vigilante : a member of a volunteer committee organized to suppress and punish crime summarily (as when the processes of law appear inadequate); broadly : a self-appointed doer of justice. Sounds good to me. One Army vet apprehended 6 illegal aliens who rushed his car and held them for police. When the pot bellied sheriff arrived and explained for the news cameras this was the job of professional as such as himself, I wondered how long it had been since he had seen his feet. He is almost as funny as the folks who call the Minutemen Vigilantes.

I like Real Guns, the site and the visitors. I get a lot of email, I get to work with firearms and learn a little bit. I can’t generate work as fast as some sites, but I have to do the work, handload the ammo, wait for services when work is farmed out, so it takes a little longer. I try to write what I know about, or at least I think I know about, and I try to avoid press releases, manufacturer’s white papers and repeating what I only know from pulling content from a book or content from a message board. In some strange way this is all important to me because the objective is to maintain as positive an image as possible, maintain integrity of opinion and perspective and spend more time around firearms.

So I am going to spend some time at the house in Maine and think about what projects to undertake next. If you guys want me to bring anything back with me, let me know.

Thanks,
Joe
