The politics of firearms and America's new royalty

I apologize for the political commentary. I know people like to separate politics from firearms sites and publications, but if not here, where ? If you’ve been trying to become educated on the issues and see what both sides have to offer by watching cable and network news, you’d probably think Al Gore is the only candidate, and Republicans have all but conceded the outcome. If that’s not bad enough, we have some of the jackass gun rights people telling gun owners to withhold their vote, or vote Libertarian, because Bush isn’t as strong of a guns rights candidate as they would like. Now there’s good advice – get Gore in the White House to teach George a lesson.

Did you know that George Bush and Dick Cheney have been actively and successfully campaigning all over the country? Did you know that with the exception of the same two states Gore is leading in, super liberal, NY and CA, the rest are a toss up, except for the remaining 38 states where Bush is holding a firm lead. Did you notice how, for the past week, there are polls referenced where Gore has pulled ahead to a 20 point lead? Did you notice these are “field” poles and no longer Gallop or Zogby polls? Did you know a field poll could be a news producer’s assistance asking 20 of their friends and relatives what they think about the candidates? They are designed to do damage.

The National Press Club goal here is to present Al Gore as a winner and George Bush as a loser, because everyone knows, we all love a winner and run away from a loser. If the national press, which is comprised of 97% Democrats can convince us Bush has already lost, they will cross the critical Labor Day milestone with momentum when the real poll results will be published. How blatant has press bias become and how far are they willing to go to beat the Republican ticket? I wanted to check the spelling of Dick Cheney’s name and I could not find a single reference to him or George Bush in Sunday’s or Saturday’s San Jose Mercury News – a national disgrace of a newspaper. Not too obvious in intent considering every front page above the fold was all Al Gore, and that little lap dog he drags around with him as a Vice Presidential candidate. Not since “Dumb and Dumber” have I see two worse prospects vying for our country’s highest offices.

This past week I received  a response letter from California Senator Dianne Feinstein, a nice change from the other 20 she never bothered to answer. Then I received a response from, of all places, a company that makes bacteria for a living, Dannon Yogurt. I had written to Feinstein to express my views of her confiscation directed gun control initiatives. I had written to Dannon to ask why a publicly traded company was getting involved in gun control and Constitutional issues – Dannon subsidized Hillary Clinton’s Million Mom March, as well as many other political, rather than charitable efforts. The responses were odd, yet typical for people and organizations that believe they are out of reach of accountability. They both conceded gun control was driven by a minority of the people, but they felt they knew what needed to be done, and they would work until all guns were out of the hands of private citizens. Dannon actually inferred I was against the safety of children because I was a firearms enthusiast, and I had questioned their roll in underwriting gun control.

Do you remember all of the times over the past 8 years you were demonized for being a gun owner ? Do you remember: encountering special firearms only local taxes, closed down gun stores, purchasing restrictions on reloading supplies, the absence of rifles and handguns that were branded as illegal over an issue of aesthetics? Have you notice how you may have gotten a little less willing to talk to people about your hobby, or have you caught bits of conversation that took you; a perfectly normal, moral and responsible person, and tied you through your firearms’ interest to every immoral felony act committed? Is it only me, or does the press now openly suggest we be stripped of our firearms to protect the public when, in the next breath, they launch into the new push for liberating drug dealers and pedophiles they describe as victims of our society? Do you remember you are the same law abiding family person you always have been, with no arrest record, spending most of your life independent of the government, working hard to keep your head above water to make a decent life for your family?

How about those stares at airline counters when you tried to ship your gun to a hunting destination, or from the goofy UPS driver when you were shipping a firearm for repair or custom work? How does it feel to be judged and found guilty by a bunch of ill informed prejudiced people? How does it feel to have your representatives in government ignore the Constitution and betray you without a second thought. How does it feel to have some Twinkie at a yogurt company have more inputs into your private life than you? The truth of the matter is, there is only one choice in this election if you want to right these wrongs and get back on a responsible even keel. So if you’ve been basking in the wonderfulness of your own rhetoric, make sure you kill the bullshit long enough to make sure you’re registered to use the most powerful weapon you’ll ever handle, your vote. It’s a simple choice, vote Bush or give up your guns, and you know the lose of guns would only mark the beginning. How many Constitutional rights to free speech were trampled on to shut out Bush and Cheney? How many acts of ranny were committed to have the IRS investigate those who spoke out against this administration, or black preachers who offered support at the Republican National Convention?

And what are the social issues of the Democratic Party people must rush to support? Do you really want your child to be held captive to public schools and substandard teachings of a government education, complete with messages on correct thought from the State? Isn’t this really an issue of saving your child or saving and institution? Can your child wait until the school system is repaired to receive a proper education? Have you wondered what it means when the government needs to provide universal preschool, so children can have their democratic thinking corrected before their personalities are formed? Is Rob Reiner really a person who should be deciding how your child should think? He’s the man wired into the Democratic Party for preschool education policy. You remember “Meat Head”

Are you afraid because the government will actually let you chose where to invest 2% of your social security? Are we that far down the road that we’re afraid of freedom? Did you know federal  government employees have had this investment option forever, as do some state employees and postal workers. Do you think you could manage your money as well as the person at the end of the line at the DMV?

Dick Cheney cut the military 30% after the Gulf War; the peace dividend at the end of this action, as well as an end to the Cold War. Al Gore’s administration has cut that already reduced force by 50%, while claiming to have increased the strength of our military. Sounds a lot like, “I never touched that woman”, doesn’t it. It takes 20 years to train a war ready general, it takes 9 years to build one aircraft carrier, and we can’t even recruit enough people to staff our military. Do you believe the Defense Department under Al Gore will be able to maintain our nation’s sovereignty and security? Is he a Vietnam era vet? I guess so, Al Gore did 5 months in Vietnam as an entertainment news reporter?

Do you really believe you will get free medical care and free prescription drugs without taking money from the guy next door to pay the bill? Are you really ready to see an end to capitalism and a rush to socialism? If so, show me the country, show me the nation, where you can pick a doctor of your choice rather than line up at a ward for treatment by half baked, half skilled government sponsored doctors. Do you want to have your wife or husband take the kids to stand in line at the free clinic for their back to school physical?

We have just wrapped up eight years of prosperity. If that is true, and Al Gore wants us all to believe it’s true, does it seem appropriate that we punctuate that success with law suits against most of the companies that made it possible? Maybe it’s like everything else this administration has done, pit us all against one another so we will be so busy attacking ourselves we’ll never look at them to see what the heck they’ve been up to. Why do we have a government that works so hard to turn everyone into a small sliver of a voting block, when there should be so many things that draw us together for a common good? Democracy is about cooperation.

Are you better off today than you were eight years ago? Using government reported inflation indexes for the past eight years, if you are not taking home a paycheck that is 32% higher than your paycheck in 1992, you are actually making less then you were back then. There are more people living in poverty today than there were eight years ago, In fact, there are more poor people today than in the entire history of this country. There are also more people in prison, there are more people addicted to drugs and a greater imbalance of trade than ever before. The national debt? You realize of course we have not reduced the national debt by a single penny, we have only curbed its growth. Wasn’t this the administration that was going to pay off the national debt in 8 years? Wasn’t that promise made about 8 years ago. So if you’re feeling all warm and cuddly about these eight years of untold prosperity, you may want to see if you can put a finger on that pulse, because this prosperity is exactly that, untold.

The only thing our government has gotten good, at is dragging children out of bed at gun point in the middle of the night. Anyone want to carry a wallet size picture of our smirking Attorney General as a reminder of her regard for the law. Are you starting to feel good when you see people beaten in the streets of LA with police in tactical gear, attacking civilians for not falling into line. Did I miss a page in our civil rights history, or do those rights only apply to a narrow few? Apparently, if you challenge the State’s message, it’s hate speech, but if you sing the right praises that’s….well, that’s freedom of speech. Vote, it may be one of the last times you have that “privilege” to exercise.

Thanks
Joe
