California Gun Owners, the time to act is now !

Governor Gray Davis has signed into law the first in a long string of pending anti-gun legislation. It is clearly the intention of the Governor and his backers to make illegal all gun ownership and purchase in the state of California. If you are a California voter, notice you were not asked to vote on SB23, and you will not be asked to vote on the rest. Please go to either of these sites, download, complete and mail in the petition now ! Then we can spend the next couple of months contacting and getting signatures from anyone else who will support us. I guess this where we find out if we’re committed as we say we are.

SITREP 7/31/99

The Attorney General has issued the title and summary. Here it is:

“The Attorney General of California has prepared the following title and summary of the chief purpose and points of the proposed measure:

REFERENDUM VOTE TO OVERTURN AMENDED ASSAULT WEAPON STATUES. If signed by required number of electors and filed with Secretary of State by October 18, 1999, this petition will nullify Chapter 129, Statutes of 1999, previously approved by the Legislature and Governor, unless Chapter 129 is approved by a majority of voters. Approved by Legislature and Governor, Chapter 129 amends Roberti-Roos Assault Weapons Control Act of 1989, that prohibits possession of unregistered assault weapons, defines “assault weapons” by functions and characteristics rather than by make or model. Prohibits manufacture, sale, unsupervised lending or ammunition magazines with more than 10-rounds capacity.

That’s it. That language will be included in the Petition, which we hope to have on line no later than Monday. You are encouraged to print the petition, have copies printed, sign it, circulate it and mail it to the Sacramento address.

October 18th is the deadline. Don’t wait. Mail the petitions sooner rather than later.

Havelock Ellis once said, “To be a leader of men one must turn one’s back on men.” He neglected to include the anything about the alleged allies who remain so anxious to stab you in the back.

To all those critics (and they are coming out from under every rock) good luck. The objective of this effort is to bring together the petty infighters so intent on vilifying rival gun supporters. I am sick of hearing “we can’t” from people who won’t even “try”.

You can’t WIN anything with just defense. There are dozens of great ideas that have been offered, but no one is doing anything yet other than criticize this one effort to DO something.

We are not going to quit. We are not going to fold our tent and wait for someone else to ‘maybe’ do something. For good or ill, we are IN the fight. The odds are against us, but the odds were against the 4% of Colonials who took on King George and the powerful country on the planet. The odds were against William Wallace. The odds were against Ward Connerly, Glynn Custred and Tom Woods with Prop 209. The odds were against Prop 3, Prop 140, Prop 187, and dozens of others who ignored the odds, the naysayers, and the conventional wisdom and WON.

There is an element, which is scared, spitless that we might actually qualify for the ballot. Their fear is that IF we get on the ballot and lose, it will have a significant negative impact on the entire second amendment cause. Three points that need to be stressed:

1. This battle is not just a gun issue. It is about abuse of power under the color of authority. If we allow government to arbitrarily eviscerate the second amendment, what stops them from incrementally targeting the first?

2. There ARE dangers to losing in March (IF we get the signatures). However, what about the national consequences IF WE WIN???? Those who are terrified we might lose, fail to even acknowledge the possibility we could prevail. If California, statewide, succeeds in killing this badly written over reaching legislation, the national implications will drive Sarah Brady, Rosie O’Donnell, Chuck Schumer et al, apoplectic.

3. You can’t win if you won’t fight..and you shouldn’t fight if you are not prepared to suffer. Nothing of value comes without difficulty. We will stand or fall based on the strength, determination, and commitment of the grassroots. THAT’S YOU!

Ronald Reagan once observed that if someone is only 80% your ally they are not The enemy.

Although I understand the frustration, and anger I read on the forum, I am asking–no BEGGING–that you all table the NRA, GOA, GOC etc. bashing and get focused on the primary objective which is COLLECTING SIGNATURES.

The patriot community, and especially second amendment supporters, tend to be a big dysfunctional family. HOWEVER, folks, we are STILL family.

When I decided to start this fight, it was with the hope that ALL parties who claim to be constitutionally grounded, supported the Bill of Rights, and believed in liberty and freedom could and would join forces. I still cling to that hope.

I still very strongly that we need to have this fight. Win or lose, we NEED to fight. We knew from the beginning that the organizational types don’t want a referendum. We may disagree with them, but THEY are not the enemy. If everyone who has been filling the forum with on a myriad of alternatives would devote that energy to collecting signatures instead of bitching, we could slam-dunk this effort.

I am asking that you please delay, postpone, and table any and all in-fighting and get busy getting ten people to get ten people to get ten people to SIGN THE PETITION.
