The Bushnell 1x25 Trophy TRS-25

One of the best aspects of the AR revolution is the technology spill over into more traditional firearms…. like Picatinny rails running over the receiver and down the barrel of a lever action rifle and the adaptation of many types of sighting systems and the broadened use of red dot sights on conventional hunting rifles.

These days I can purchase sighting systems and apply their use to any number of firearms, often carrying systems with me to exchange as hunting and shooting conditions vary. The Trophy TRS-25 is particularly adaptive because it is compact enough to be at home on rifles, shotguns or handguns.

With an MSRP of $162, the TRS-25 can be purchased from quality retailers such as Brownells for as little as $89, Brownells #593-000-054WB. The Trophy TRS-25 package includes the lens caps, lens wipe cloth and detailed multilingual instruction manual. The mount is integral to the red dot sight, securely clamped to a Picatinny rail with the included Allen wrench. Installation takes approximately half a minute, forty seconds if you’re plodding and do the install with your toes… with your socks on.

Just like a scope… without eye relief limitations, or parallax, or magnification…

The TRS-25 is mounted on any firearms with a 1913 Picatinny standard rail and then adjusted on target just like a scope. Increment of adjustment is 1/2″ at 100 yards. Adjusters and battery shown with dust caps removed. The caps have “O” ring seals and the unit is 100% waterproof, fogproof and shockproof.

When shooting, the bright red dot that appears in the scope is placed on the target, without critical head-eye sight alignment as there is minimal parallax effect with this type of sight. The dot, an LED projected onto the lens, is 3 MOA in side, however, its apparent size is varied with the adjustment ring, scaled 1 through 11. This type of sight is used with both eyes open, so there is no field of view limitation, no eye relief constraints to deal with and nothing to align other than placing the red dot a the target, as previously noted.

The front optics has an Amber-Bright™ coating that enhances contrast for crisp, clear images. At 3.8 ounces, you can hardly notice the weight of the sight on a firearm and a span of rail only 1.1″ long is required for mounting.

I didn’t mount the Bushnell TRS-25 Trophy to anything fancy, just my beater AR 15, pictured, a Mossberg M500 slug gun and a Ruger Mark III Target pistol. Nothing jarred loose under recoil, the sight could be removed and reinstalled without shifting zero and the sight was easy to use in any reasonable light conditions. Nice sight, very compact and a tough little and useful gadget.
